Advisory Board Biography

Throughout his career, Charles P. “Charlie” Pizzi has been an advocate of business interests and regional cooperation in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Charles P. Pizzi is the president and chief executive officer of Tasty Baking Company. Tasty Baking Company, headquartered in Philadelphia, PA is the manufacturer of the popular Tastykake brand. He joined the company in the 4th quarter of 2002, to lead a transformation of the company. In 2010, the company was named Baker of the Year.

Prior to joining Tasty Baking Company, Mr. Pizzi was president and chief executive officer of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Charlie also served as Vice Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives in 1997 and Chairman of the Metro Council Presidents in 1998.

Charlie’s experience also includes participating in the transition teams for Governor Ridge and Mayor Rendell. While working with Governor Ridge on export issues, Charlie was instrumental in increasing the number of Commonwealth offices around the world from three to 15.

Prior to his appointment as President of the Chamber, Charlie served as Commerce Director for the City of Philadelphia, where he implemented the City’s economic development strategies and served as Chairman of the Mayor’s Development Cabinet.

An active member of the corporate community, Charlie lends his expertise to corporate boards of directors.
Currently, he serves on: Brandywine Realty Trust; The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia (Chairman); Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank Council of Chairs, Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Grocery Manufacturers Association; and Independence Blue Cross (Vice Chair).

He is also active in civic and community affairs and serves on the boards of non-profit organizations, including: Drexel University, The Philadelphia Orchestra Association, and the Philadelphia Award.

Charlie is a graduate of LaSalle University, where he received his bachelor’s degree, he also holds a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He received

an honorary doctorate from St. Joseph’s University. Charlie is the recipient of the 2009 William Penn Award.

Charlie is married and has four sons.
